Before today's sleek, diesel or electric powered streamlined stainless steel commuter trains operated by Chicago's public entities, the individual railroads operated their own steam powered commuter trains, known as 'suburbans'.  The extensive photograph collection of Roy Campbell contains numerous examples of these trains and the specialized steam locomotives used to pull them.
